England vs New Zealand: In-form Daryl Mitchell fell agonisingly short of his maiden double hundred as he was dismissed by Matthew Potts with a wide slower delivery on 190 on Day 2 of the Trent Bridge Test.
New Zealand batter Daly Mitchell played down the disappointment of missing out on his maiden double hundred in Test cricket on Day 2 of the 2nd Test against England at Trent Bridge in Nottingham. Mitchell got out for 190, his highest-ever score in Test cricket, putting the visitors in a position of strength at Stumps on Saturday.
Daryl Mitchell, who had scored a hundred in the first Test in Lord's, continued his inspired form with the bat, stitching a 236-run partnership with wicketkeeper-batter Tom Blundell as New Zealand posted 553 in their first innings in the 2nd Test after being sent into bat by England skipper Ben Stokes.
Mitchell batted with the tail wonderfully well and even stitched a 33-run stand with No. 11 Trent Boult but seamer Matthew Potts denied Mitchell his double hundred by dismissing the number five batsman with a wide, slower delivery.
"To be honest, a double-hundred personally doesn't mean a hell of a lot," Mitchell said.
"It was just nice to contribute to a score that can help us win a test match," he said.
"Anything over a hundred's pretty good, so I was just trying to do a good job for the team, and it's always good fun batting with (Trent) Boulty at the end there. He always provides a bit of entertainment."
