Donald Trump will be sworn in as the 47th president of the United States on Monday (January 20, 2025), following his landslide victory on November 5, 2024.
Donald Trump, 78, who won the United States Presidential elections in November last year by defeating Democrat Kamala Harris, is taking over from the incumbent President Joe Biden. This is his second term as the President of the United States - previously he served as the 45th president between 2017 and 2021.
The swearing-in events would formally kick off with fireworks on January 18, Saturday.
The inauguration of George Washington on April 30, 1789, marked the first Presidential Inauguration in the United States. Since then, 59 ceremonies have been held to signify the start of a new four-year presidential term, along with nine additional ceremonies conducted to mark the beginning of partial presidential terms following the death or resignation of a sitting president.

Of all the presidents, 21 one of them served a second term - Donald Trump will be the 22nd. Franklin D. Roosevelt, the 32nd president of the United States, is the only president elected more than twice. He was elected president four times from 1933 till 1945. He died three months into his fourth term following brain haemorrhage.
Since the 22nd Amendment was adopted in 1951, the presidency has been limited to a maximum of two terms.
