Donald Trump recently launched his own social media platform, Truth Social. The app, which was offered to users as a better free speech platform in comparison to Twitter, has already started banning people for inappropriate reasons. Users are also struggling to access or use this social media platform as around half a million users are reportedly waitlisted.
A user named Matt Ortega was banned from Donald Trump’s social media app on the basis of a username. According to a report by Mashable, the account was created with the username @DevineNunesCow, which was also used by a parody Twitter account to make fun of former Rep. Devin Nunes, who left Congress sometime back and is now the CEO of Truth Social’s parent company, Trump Media & Technology Group.
Ortega received an email from the social media platform that says, “Your account @DevineDunesCow has been banned. After careful review, we have decided to delete your account permanently due to Truth Social community guideline violations.”
Trump’s Truth Social app seems to have more strict rules in terms of what can be posted on the platform. Unlike Twitter, this social media platform can ban people if the moderators feel that certain content is false, defamatory or misleading. Those who are using the Truth Social app could also get banned or suspended for posting content that could be considered “libelous, slanderous, or otherwise objectionable.”
In the past, Twitter has also taken strict action against those who have tried to spread false Covid-19 election news. But, it has never really banned a user on the basis of a username. The Truth Social app is currently available for those who are based in the US. It is also not available for Android users.
Several users have already experienced sign-up issues on the app, while millions of users have been waitlisted. Engadget reported that the waitlist for this includes more than 500,000 people. Interestingly, the people who were not able to create an account on this social media platform have given a 5-star rating on Apple’s App Store. Currently, the Truth Social media app has a 4.1 star rating. It is pretty similar to Twitter in terms of features and claims to be a platform that is free from political discrimination.
