During a meeting with municipal commissioners, Delhi Deputy CM Manish Sisodia said that Directorate of Education schools and municipality schools need to work together to bridge the Covid-19 learning gap.
Delhi Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia said on Wednesday that the Directorate of Education and state’s municipal schools will have to work together to close the learning gap in schools that has emerged due to the prolonged school closures because of Covid-19. The deputy CM made the remarks during a meeting chaired by him that included the Commissioner of North, South, and East Delhi Municipal Corporations as well as the secretary of the New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC).
Delhi Deputy CM Manish Sisodia further said, “Due to the COVID-19 pandemic and consequent closure of schools, a huge gap in the learning of children has emerged in the last two years. After the schools fully reopen in the new session, it has become very important to undertake all necessary steps to bridge this gap.”
“The Directorate of Education and the municipal schools will have to work together to bridge this learning gap among children,” he added.
While deliberating with the Municipal commissioner, Deputy CM Manish Sisodia went on to say that Delhi government’s Mission Buniyaad should be implemented in mission mode.
The ‘Mission Buniyaad’ programme was launched by the Delhi government in February 2018 to improve the learning skills of children studying in state and municipality-run schools.
Children will undertake a reading level assessment as part of the initiative, which will run from April to June for Classes 3 to 5 in MCD and Classes 6 to 8 in government schools.
They will then be enrolled in specialised "Mission Buniyaad" classes.
