The International Cricket Council is set to change the playing conditions starting 1st October, 2022. There have been a host of changes made, and here is a full list.
Major changes are set to be implemented by the International Cricket Council from 1st October. Cricket as we know it in the ICC tournaments will change completely once ICC brings in the new rules which will also govern the T20 World Cup, scheduled to be held in Australia in the months of October and November.
The Men's Cricket Committee led by former India captain Sourav Ganguly recommended changes to the Playing Conditions in MCC’s updated 3rd Edition of the 2017 Code of the Laws of Cricket reported the ICC. The conclusions were also shared with the Women’s Cricket Committee, who endorsed the recommendations.
Batters returning when caught
When a batter is out caught, the new batter will be walking out in the striker's end, regardless of whether the batters crossed prior to the catch being taken.
Use of saliva to polish the ball
The practice of polishing the ball by using saliva was banned in the Covid-19 affected world. The changes were made permanent after it was found that shining the ball with saliva or sweat has minimum changes in the behaviour on the cherry.
