Ahead of filing nomination for the Congress Presidential poll, Shashi Tharoor said that the DNA of Congress is linked to the DNA of the Gandhi family.
Ahead of the Congress Presidential election, Congress MP Shashi Tharoor in an exclusive interview with India Today said, "DNA of Congress is linked to the DNA of the Gandhi family. Every party in our country, DMK, Shiv Sena have the ideals of dynasty."
The battle for the Congress chief post intensified after Congress leader Digvijaya Singh on Friday announced that he would not contest the party president's election and would instead propose the candidature of his senior Mallikarjun Kharge. Thiruvananthapuram MP Shashi Tharoor spoke at length to India Today TV before filing his nomination papers on Friday.
When asked about what made him contest the election, the Congress MP said, "I really feel that the Congress party is needed by the country. We need to appeal to larger constituencies and we have been able to do that in the last couple of years."

He said, "We need to stop good people from leaving the party for good and bad reasons. We need to revive and rebuild the party inside and at the same time appeal to more voters outside. We have to challenge the hegemony of the BJP and PM Modi."
