Thol Thirumalavan, leader of Viduthalai Chirithaigal Katchi, a Dalit-centric party and an ally of DMK, has accused the Tamil Nadu BJP of promoting "hate propaganda" over Class 12 student's suicide.
Thol Thirumalavan, leader of Viduthalai Chirithaigal Katchi, has accused the Tamil Nadu unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) of using the Class 12 student's suicide for promoting "hate propaganda".
Viduthalai Chirithaigal Katchi is a Dalit-centric party and an ally of Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK).
"Those who are responsible for the student suicide should be brought before the law. In her confession to the magistrate, the student had talked about the warden who made her work excessively -- based on which the warden was arrested. But using a video clip, the BJP is propagating that she was forced to convert to Christianity, causing her depression which had led to her death," said Thirumalavan.
He also urged the Tamil Nadu government to take strict action against such forces.
Meanwhile, CPM Tamil Nadu leader Balakrishnan released a statement, claiming that he condemned Tamil Nadu BJP's cringe politics.
"Based on a confession from the student, when she was being treated at the hospital, police have filed a case under sections 307, 511, 75 and 82 (1) of the IPC," Balakrishnan's statement read.
"The student had confessed that she went into depression due to the torture she faced in the hostel, which led her to take the drastic decision. But the BJP is diverting the issue into death caused due to religious confession for political gain. The Communist Party of India condemns this act and demands legal action against anyone who tries to cause disharmony in Tamil Nadu," said Balakrishnan.
