Dismissed cop Sachin Vaze granted pardon by CBI court in Anil Deshmukh case, but conditions apply
India Today
Dismissed Mumbai Police officer Sachin Vaze has turned an approver in the corruption case against former Maharashtra home minister Anil Deshmukh.
Former Mumbai cop Sachin Vaze has been granted pardon by the special CBI court in the corruption case against former Maharashtra home minister Anil Deshmukh. The court said that this pardon is subject to Vaze's full disclosure in the case.
The court heard the arguments in the case earlier in the day before asking the prison authorities to connect Sachin Vaze through video conferencing. Special Judge DP Shingade told Vaze, "I have allowed your application, but I have imposed certain conditions. Let me know if it is acceptable to you."
With this, he read out that Vaze has to make full disclosure in the case. He should disclose all facts that he has given under section 164 of the Criminal Procedure Code before a Magistrate. He should truthfully answer questions which would be asked by public prosecutor to unravel the entire case during trial, said the judge.
When Vaze said yes, his advocate Rounak Naik requested the court that since he has accepted, this should be recorded in the order. The judge accepted this request.

Earlier in the day, advocate Prashant Pawar representing accused Kundan Shinde said that the application seeking pardon by Sachin Vaze would have a direct bearing on the case against him so he should be heard. Kundan Shinde was the personal assistant of Anil Deshmukh and has been behind bars after being arrested by both CBI as well as Enforcement Directorate (ED).
However, advocates Naik and Aarti Kalekar, representing Sachin Vaze, opposed this contention and said that before the filing of chargesheet in a case when the investigation is still going on, the other accused have no say at this juncture.
