When Nelson Dilipkumar asked Vijay about Sanjay's acting debut, he said that he had left that decision to him. He said, "Many people approached me asking if Sanjay will act. Premam director Alphonse Putharen narrated the story as well. I really loved it and thought it'd be nice if Sanjay decided to do the film. And whatever he decides, we will support him."
Vijay married Sangeetha in a grand wedding in 1999. They are parents to two children, Jason Sanjay and Divya Sasha. While Vijay and Sanjay rarely make public appearances, their children mostly stay away from the media glare. It is said that Jason Sanjay is pursuing a film-related course in Canada.
