AMMK's T.T.V. Dhinakaran demands rollback of cooking gas price hike, while O. Panneerselvam urges State government to act.
Amma Makkal Munnetra Kazhagam (AMMK) general secretary T.T.V. Dhinakaran on Tuesday, April 8, 2025, demanded a rollback of the hike in the price of cooking gas cylinders. The Finance Ministry on April 7, hiked the price of domestic liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) by ₹50 per cylinder, in both subsidised and non-subsidised categories. While it also notified an increase in excise duties on petrol and diesel by ₹2, there will be no impact on retail prices.
In a post on his social media handle, Mr. Dhinakaran said the development had taken place when people were reeling under the impact of the manifold increase in electricity tariffs and the prices of essential commodities. Besides, the ruling party had not fulfilled its electoral promise of providing ₹100 per refill of cooking gas.
In a separate statement, former Chief Minister and the ADMK Workers’ Rights Retrieval Committee coordinator, O. Panneerselvam urged the State government to withdraw the increase in the rates for petrol, diesel and cooking gas cylinders.
