Deshaposhini Public Library digitises rare books and documents, including banned play Rakthapanam, for history and literature enthusiasts.
The 87-year-old Deshaposhini Public Library at Kuthiravattom in Kozhikode city has digitised some rare books and documents in its possession.
According to sources, the library has a copy of Rakthapanam, a play written in 1939 by the late Communist leader and writer K. Damodaran, which was banned by the then British government. Most of its copies were confiscated too. Another rare possession is the diary written by an erstwhile member of Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose’s Indian National Army. Through digitisation, all these will be made available to history and literature enthusiasts, researchers, and students through a single click. The equipment for digitisation were contributed by the Calicut Central unit of the Rotary Club. Santhosh Sreedhar, district governor, Rotary Club, opened the new facility recently.
