Die Süße des Honigs wird durch Gewürze und schwarzen Kaffee ausgeglichen, eine karamellisierte Glasur mit Mandeln und Orange macht den Kuchen saftig und sieht festlich aus. Genau richtig für spontane Begegnungen und zum Verschenken.
In der Zeit vor und um Weihnachten habe ich gern einen unkomplizierten Kuchen im Haus: Dieser ist schnell angerührt, wird nicht schlecht und bleibt zugleich lange saftig. Die Aromen sind eindeutig winterlich, aber es sind keine „kontroversen“ Zutaten drin wie kandierte Früchte, Rosinen oder Alkohol. Wenn Treffen nach draußen verlegt werden, schmeckt er auch in dicke Scheiben geschnitten aus einer Tupperdose, und weil er so lecker ist, verschwindet er im Magen, noch bevor die Fingerspitzen eiskalt geworden sind.
