Dems set to bring up next reproductive messaging bill ahead of 2024 elections

Democrats are planning to bring an IVF bill to the floor this week after a contraception bill recently failed to pass the 60 vote threshold. The bills are being considered in the lead up to the 2024 elections in which Democrats are emphasizing abortion and reproduction-related concerns.
The IVF bill, spearheaded by Sen. Tammy Duckworth, D-Ill., will likely face a procedural vote on Thursday, which is expected to fall short of the 60-vote threshold. The measure has been blocked before by Republicans, who have criticized it for being too expansive and not allowing for certain regulations. Earlier this year, Duckworth sought to bring up her bill for a vote by unanimous consent. Sen. Cindy Hyde-Smith, R-Miss., the chairwoman of the Senate Pro-Life caucus, objected to the request, claiming, "The bill before us today is a vast overreach that is full of poison pills that go way too far."
