Dementia patients who take opioids face 'worrisome' death risk, new study finds
Fox News
A new study says that opioid use could put dementia patients at a higher risk of death. The research was recently revealed at the Alzheimer’s Association International Conference.
The death risk was around five times higher than for those who did not take opioids — but it was 11 times higher within the first two weeks. Melissa Rudy is health editor and a member of the lifestyle team at Fox News Digital.
The risk was even higher among those who used fentanyl patches, with nearly two-thirds of those patients dying within 180 days, the Alzheimer’s Association reported.
