A team of cyber police arrested a woman who allegedly duped men using Facebook and international WhatsApp numbers.
Continuing its drive against cyber fraud, a team of cyber police arrested a woman who allegedly duped males using Facebook and international WhatsApp numbers.
In this regard, a complaint on MHA Cyber Crime portal was received from complainant Dharam Raj, resident of Burari, Delhi, wherein the complainant alleged that he received a friend request on Facebook from a girl, namely Amara Gujral, and after accepting the friend request, he started talking with her and exchanged WhatsApp numbers.
Amara Gujral told him that she lives in the United Kingdom and was coming to Delhi. Subsequently, he received a call from a woman, who introduced herself as a Customs officer from Mumbai and stated that Amara Gujral had been stopped at Mumbai Airport with some valuable gifts and he had to pay money to release Amara. Following this inducement, the complainant paid Rs 34,000 into the bank account provided by the alleged officer. Later on, the complainant was blocked by her on Facebook and WhatsApp.
A case was registered with the Cyber police station, North District.
A dedicated team was handed over the task of identifying the accused. A technical analysis of profile details received from Facebook, IPDR and call details was done. The location of the accused was Krishna Puri, Tilak Nagar, Delhi. Then, the accused was apprehended in her rented flat.
The accused woman (29) was questioned, who stated that she came in contact with several African-origin neighbours in her locality, who used to dupe people in several ways and came to know about this method of cheating.
She bought some fake SIM cards of Delhi and LYCA SIM cards of +44. She created several fake profiles under the names of Amara Gujral, Lakshikha Choudhry, Avni Chopra, Avantika Chopra, Anamika Gujral and Emily Rose. Photos uploaded to these profiles were downloaded from the original profile of a UK resident.
