
Delhi: Two arrested for running interstate illegal arms racket, 20 pistols recovered

Two active members of an inter-state illegal firearms syndicate were nabbed by the Delhi police today. Police recovered 20 semi-automatic pistols, mobile phones and SIM cards from the possession of the accused.
The Delhi Police Special Cell has busted an inter-state illegal firearms syndicate and arrested two persons in this connection. Police recovered twenty semi-automatic pistols from their possession. Police said one of the accused was previously involved in more than at least five criminal cases including murder, possession of arms and other explosives.
Police said they also recovered mobile phones and SIM cards that were used for the illegal arms supply activities. The accused have been identified as Sajid Ahmed and Rajender Kumar, both residents of Uttar Pradesh.
In a bid to crackdown on the supply of illegal firearms in the Delhi-NCR region, the Delhi Police special cell launched a special drive against interstate suppliers of arms. A police officer informed the members of the syndicate which was involved in procuring weapons from Sendhwa, Khargone, Dhar and Burhanpur (Madhya Pradesh) and supplying them to Delhi-NCR.
A tip-off was received on March 12 that a member of a gang would come near Indraprastha Marg to deliver a huge consignment of illegal arms to his other associates. Accordingly, a trap was laid and the accused was apprehended.
"During the search by police, five semi-automatic sophisticated pistols and five country-made pistols were recovered from Sajid's bag," an official said.
Upon further investigation, Sajid told the police about the involvement of another accused and another raid was conducted on March 13. Police arrested another accused, Rajender Kumar, near Sarai Kale Khan in the national capital. Cops recovered five semi-automatic sophisticated pistols and five country-made pistols from his possession as well.
Kumar revealed that he has been supplying illegal firearms and ammunition in Delhi-NCR, Haryana and western Uttar Pradesh for the last five years. He was also involved in more than at least five criminal cases, including murder, possession of arms and other explosives, cheating and robberies in various parts of Uttar Pradesh.
