Delhi’s peak power demand continued its northwards climb, as it clocked the highest ever peak power demand of 7601 MW on Tuesday.
Delhi clocked the highest ever peak power demand of 7601 MW on Tuesday, breaking the previous record of 7409 MW which was recorded on July 2, 2019.
As per State Load Despatch Center (SLDC) today at 3.21 PM, the city’s peak power demand not only clocked the season’s highest of 7601 MW, but also the highest ever in the national capital in any month. The previous high of 7409 MW was recorded on July 2, 2019.
Continuing its northward climb, peak power demand in Delhi has crossed the 7000 MW-mark on multiple occasions this month (June).
In the month of June in 2019 and 2020, the highest power demand was recorded at 6314 MW and 6769 MW, respectively. Both on the same date- June 30.
The figure soared up to 6921 MW on June 30 in 2021. It is 7601 MW (Till June 28) 2022.
Before June 9, Delhi’s peak power demand had never crossed the 7000 MW during the month of June. In fact, it has already crossed 7000 MW 9 times in June this year and once in May when it had clocked 7070 MW.
The cooling load (ACs, coolers, fans) has emerged as the main reason behind Delhi’s power load. In fact, according to estimates, almost 50 per cent of Delhi’s power demand in summers is because of cooling load.
