Two accused, who had scammed investors by promising them returns on a construction project, were arrested by the Economic Offences Wing of the Delhi Police.
The Economic Offences Wing of Delhi Police arrested two builders in a case of cheating for scamming investors by assuring them promising returns in four-five years.
The accused, Sunil Dahiya and Sanjay Dahiya, were arrested based on a complaint by Sharda Choudhary, who reportedly invested Rs 70 lakh in 2012. The accused had assured her to return on a construction project in Gurugram within five years.She invested Rs 70 lakh for the two units in a project after the builders assured lucrative returns. After four-five years, she learnt that the accused had misappropriated the money and thus, she filed a case with the police.
During the investigation, it was discovered that the accused had become directors of a private construction firm. After a while, they incorporated 15 more companies but they were all managed from the same address. A project had also been reportedly launched by the group in Sector 74, Gurugram.
However, when the site was inspected, no construction activity was seen except the digging of a ditch. The general public was reportedly assured that the property would be handed over within five years.
Upon combing the bank accounts of the private firm, it was discovered that huge amounts were transferred into the account of one of the accused’s fathers.
The accused had depicted a rosy picture to the investors and lured the complainants on the pretext of assured returns. One of the accused was found to be involved in several other cases.
Further investigation of the case is in progress.
