Delhi Police busted a fake call centre and arrested Amit Kumar, Govind Singh and two female telecallers. The fake call centre was cheating people under the pretext of giving discounts on mobile phones. The fake call centre has been in operation for the last two months.
On Monday, August 1, the South Rohini police station received information regarding a person who was running a fake call centre and cheating people on the pretext of giving discounts on mobile phones.
Officials immediately formed a team and reached the spot where the facts were verified by the investigating officer.
In the enquiry, it was revealed that the calls were made to residents of remote areas in Punjab, Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Jharkhand, Assam, Chattisgarh, Odissa and Maharashtra based on the lines of script written by women employees (telecallers). Orders were booked to deliver Vivo phones at a discounted price of Rs 4,000.
The orders were confirmed for cash on delivery so that these gullible people would trust them. Later, a parcel containing dummy clay articles that weighed the same as the mobile phone box was sent to customers through post.
Accordingly, a case was registered and further investigations were taken up. The primary accused, 40-year-old Amit Kumar, a resident of Jain Mandir, Bhajanpura, Delhi and another accused, Govind Singh, were arrested in the case.
Two women, who were working as telecallers in the call centre, were questioned at length. The call centre was reportedly being operated for the last two months at the current location by the accused, Amit Kumar and Govind Singh.
