Delhi Police arrested a 35-year-old man for stealing the laptops of passengers on interstate buses. As many as 10 laptops have been recovered from his possession.
Delhi police recently nabbed a 35-year-old man for stealing laptops from interstate deluxe buses. The accused, identified as Kamal Kumar Rehlan, a resident of Faridabad, used to board a deluxe tourist bus to travel from one state to another and steal other passengers' laptops.
His act came to light on May 18 when a 28-year-old woman from Delhi filed a complaint about a missing laptop. The woman revealed that on March 30, she, along with her friend, boarded a bus from Majnu Ka Tila for Manali in Himachal Pradesh.
They kept their luggage in the luggage area of the bus and two handbags in the overhead cabins. The next morning, when she woke up, she was shocked to see that her laptop is gone.
She immediately alarmed everyone and checked the CCTV camera installed inside the bus. On the camera, a man was found who stole her bag around 4 am and de-boarded the bus at Zirakpur in Punjab.
During the investigation, police got a tip-off about a man with a resemblance to the accused. He was spotted near Gurudwara near Majnu Ka Tila Market.
A raid was conducted and the accused was nabbed. On interrogation, the accused revealed that he had stolen several laptops from buses in the same way and sold them to a man named Satish Kumar Sharma through Sanjeev. They both lived in Kirari in outer Delhi, police said.
He said that he used to sit in the rear seat of the bus to observe the activity and belongings of fellow passengers. He used to identify passengers with laptops and used to deboard the bus after stealing them.
