Delhi Police arrests 3 Mewat-based ATM robbers, recovers pistols

Delhi police busted an inter-state gang of Mewat-based robbers involved in uprooting ATMs and looting cash in the Delhi-NCR region. Three members of the gang were nabbed and pistols were also recovered.
In a joint operation, a team of Special Cell South Range and the local police of South East district busted an inter-state gang of Mewat-based robbers involved in uprooting ATMs and siphoning off cash in the Delhi-NCR region. The accused, identified as Imran, Salman and Shakeel have been arrested.
The alleged kingpin of the gang, Imran, has been involved in at least 20 criminal cases, such as murder, attempt to murder, looting ATMs, theft, assaults in Delhi and Haryana.
According to police, on the intervening night of March 31 and April 1, an ATM of SBI bank having cash worth Rs 34 lakhs was uprooted in Delhi's Badarpur area. Upon scanning the CCTV footage of surrounding areas, a Bolero car was seen passing near the ATM booth. Police analysed the modus operandi of the crime and further investigation revealed that it was the handiwork of Mewat-based criminals.
Acting on a tip-off, police laid a trap to nab two gang members, Imran and Salman near Lado Sarai on MB Road. When asked to surrender, Imran opened fire at the police and tried to escape. Both the members were later arrested and police recovered one semi-automatic pistol, one single shot pistol and a Creta car purchased from robbed money from the possession of the accused.
Police filed a case against appropriate sections of the law and, with the help of Imran, nabbed another gang member, Shakeel. Shakeel was arrested after a brief gunfight on Wednesday night at MB Road. A single shot pistol with four live cartridges was also recovered from his possession.

The accused told the police they had stolen a car on March 21 from Rajdoot hotel to use it for their plan. Police said, "On the intervening night of March, Imran, along with four of his associates, namely Rahul Chaura, Shakeel, Salman and Tayyab came in Delhi in a swift car with their plan to uproot an ATM in Delhi. The five accused uprooted an ATM and took it with them in a stolen car and later dumped it in a well."
