
Delhi Police arrests 3 for committing robbery with chilli powder

Delhi Police arrested three members of the chilli powder gang for allegedly robbing two collection agents of Rs 38 lakh in Delhi's Lajpat Nagar area.
Delhi Police have arrested three members of a gang for robbing people by throwing chilli powder in their eyes. The members of the chilli powder gang, namely Abu Bakar, 19, Zeeshan, 23, and Asif, 26 were arrested for robbing two collection agents of Rs 38 lakh after throwing chilli powder in their eyes in southeast Delhi's Lajpat Nagar area, police said.
On Friday, police got information regarding a robbery on Defence Colony Flyover at Lala Lajpat Rai Marg. The callers revealed that they were collection agents and were returning after collecting payments from the garment traders.
They kept the money in a bag and hailed an auto-rickshaw for Chandni Chowk. When the auto-rickshaw reached the Defence Colony flyover, it was waylaid by four people who were on two motorcycles, the officer said.
They tried to snatch his bag but when the collection agents resisted, they threw chilli powder in their eyes and fled with the bags.
POLICE INVESTIGATION
Police started investigating the case and analysing all CCTV footage of the area of the robbery. During the investigation, CCTV footage was analysed and four men were spotted conducting a recce of the area, police said. They found that the same four suspects were following the auto-rickshaw.
After analysing several phone numbers collected as dump data, they found the number of the culprit. It was under the name of one Harsh, a driver, whose Eeco van was used by the robbers to escape to Khurja in Uttar Pradesh after the robbery.
