
Delhi police arrests 24-year-old man on murder, robbery charges

Delhi police arrested a 24-year-old man for murdering a man and injuring another person with a knife. The accused committed thefts and robberies in different parts of the city by threatening people with a paper cutter.
A 24-year-old man was arrested from Paschim Vihar in eastern Delhi for allegedly killing a man and injuring another with a knife. The accused, identified as Kamal aka Karan, a resident of Raghubir Nagar in Delhi, had committed thefts, snatching and robbery in different parts of Delhi, police said.
The accused used to rob lonely passengers by threatening them with a cutter in the national capital. On February 22, police received a phone call regarding an unconscious person lying in a district park under the Paschim Vihar police station limits. The injured person, having multiple stab injuries, was immediately rushed to the SGMH Hospital where he was declared brought dead.
Around the same time, police received information that an injured man from the same district park was admitted to the Balaji Action Hospital. The injured man, identified as Santosh Kumar, was allegedly assaulted by an unknown person with a knife. Kumar told the police during the scuffle the suspect's muffler fell down and he had noticed a white patch on his hand.
Preliminary investigation revealed that both the incidents happened within a span of minutes. The nature of the assault, the time frame and injuries on both the victims revealed that one person was involved in both the crimes.
Doq squads were roped in to crack the case, which led the police to another park in the vicinity where the identity card of the deceased was recovered. Police scanned over 100 CCTV cameras on the route, deployed several police personnel and interrogated several history sheeters but in vain.
On March 6, acting on a tip-off, police arrested the accused and he confessed to his crime during questioning. He further disclosed that after the murder he had also assaulted and robbed the bag of a guard in the same district park on the very same day.
The accused told the police he snatched a bag from a person in Uttam Nagar on March 5. Police recovered the mobile phone, bag, knife, paper cutter, robbed purse of the deceased from his possession.
