
Delhi: Man arrested for duping woman of Rs 15 lakh posing as divorcee on matrimonial site

A man was arrested for cheating a woman of over Rs 15 lakh by posing as a divorcee on a matrimonial site.
The Delhi Police arrested one person for allegedly duping a woman by posing as a divorcee on a matrimonial site. The accused, identified as Rajeev Singh, had extorted over Rs 15 lakh from the woman.
According to the complainant, the accused had come in contact with her through Shadi.Com, a matrimonial portal. Rajeev Singh allegedly posed as a single divorced father based in UK. The two started chatting on different social media platforms regularly.
Rajeev offered expensive gifts to the woman through a courier. However, a few days later, a woman, who was allegedly an associate of Rajeev Singh, called the woman and introduced herself as an employee of the courier company and demanded money from her under the guise of excise duty and other charges for the release of gifts.
A total amount of Rs. 15, 18,280 was transferred in total six transactions from the victim's bank account to four different bank accounts provided by the fraudsters.

Following this, the woman sensed that she had been cheated and lodged a complaint with the police.
During the course of the investigation, the police questioned the victim and also gathered the details of the accused person from Shadi.com and the banks.
