Delhi civic body issues helpline number to counter ‘misconception’ about demolition drives

The Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) has issued a helpline number to counter the 'misconception' surrounding the recent demolition drives in the city.
In order to combat rising misconceptions about anti-encroachment drives being carried out in the city, the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) issued a helpline number on Thursday for people seeking clarification.
The move comes after a public notice was issued which stated that a “misleading campaign” had been launched recently in which the civic body will demolish buildings and shops in unauthorised colonies, as reported by news agency PTI.
In order to clear the air, the MCD issued a statement that read, “It is hereby clarified that MCD has no such plans. The encroachments in parks and roads are only being removed as people of Delhi have a right to clear and clean roads, parks and hygienic surroundings For any clarification/information in this regard, one may contact the Directorate of Press & Information on mobile number 8588813545."
The notice said that the MCD is in the service of the people of Delhi and will always be. The citizens are requested to not fall prey to any such misleading campaign.
In the past few weeks, a series of anti-encroachment drives have been conducted by the north, east and south civic bodies in different parts of Delhi, including Jahangirpuri, Shaheen Bagh, Madanpur Khadar, New Friends Colony, Mangolpuri, Rohini, Gokulpuri, Lodhi Colony, Janakpuri, Hari Nagar among others.
Amid the drives, the civic authorities faced opposition from locals against the drives in Shaheen Bagh, Madanpur Khadar and Jahangirpuri.
