A deer died of anthrax infection on the IIT-Madras campus in Chennai.
The reports of three other deer suspected of having been infected with anthrax are awaited.
The forest department has advised the staff and students at IIT-M, Guindy Park and Raj Bhavan not to interact with deer.
In a separate incident, a 35-year-old male elephant died due to an Anthrax infection at the Coimbatore forest division on Thursday.
