India Today
When the farmers’ agitation was taking shape after mid-2020, Deep Sidhu had gathered a strong fan following in Punjab. With a background in law, Deep Sidhu was vocal about his political views, particularly in connection with Punjab.
On Tuesday night, Punjabi actor Deep Sidhu died in a road accident when his vehicle rammed a stationary truck on the Kundli-Manesar-Palwal (KMP) Expressway in Haryana near Delhi. Deep Sidhu hit the national headline during the farmers’ agitation against three farm reforms laws in late 2020 and early 2021.
During his association with the farmers’ protest, Deep Sidhu first supported the agitators, then set up his camp, voiced his opposition to the farm reforms laws before deviating towards nuances of federalism of the Constitution, and shot a video of the Red Fort violence on January 26 last year that led to his arrest in the case.
Born in Punjab’s Muktsar district in a joint family of farmers in 1984, Deep Sidhu followed his father’s occupation and earned a law degree from Pune in Maharashtra. As a lawyer, he was part of the legal team of the Balaji Films.
