Death toll due to storms and lightning strikes rises to 23 in Assam

The Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA) on Monday informed that the death toll due to severe storm, lightning, and heavy rainfall in the state has climbed to 23.
At least 23 people have lost their lives in several incidents of storms and lightning across Assam in the last few days, said the Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA) in a release on Monday night.
Severe storms accompanied by lightning strikes hit Assam since Thursday, leaving behind a trail of destruction, including damaged houses, uprooted trees and snapped electric lines, along with human fatalities.
As per the data shared by Chief Executive Officer of Assam State Disaster Management Authority, GD Tripathi, in the last three to four days, 22 districts have reported storm and lightning incidents in 80 Revenue Circles across 1,410 villages, impacting 1.09 lakh people.

Ex-gratia payment to the kin of deceased has been initiated and it will be completed soon, GD Tripathi was quoted by ANI as saying.
