IPL 2022, DC vs PBKS: Delhi Capitals coach Ricky Ponting said he addressed the team as Covid-19 cases continued to hit the side. Ponting admitted it was a difficult build-up to the match versus Punjab Kings.
Delhi Capitals coach Ricky Ponting conceded his team's preparation for the match against Punjab Kings was far from perfect. DC has been hit with Covid-19 cases and Tim Seifert was the latest to test positive hours before game time.
Last week, DC physio Patrick Farhart tested positive following which Australia's Mitchell Marsh also tested positive. In fact, Marsh has had to be admitted to hospitalised.
There was some uncertainty around the DC vs PBKS match when Seifert tested positive but the entire squad returned negative results in the second round of testing.
Delhi Capitals have had a poor start to their campaign in IPL 2022, losing three of their five league matches so far. They now face PBKS in a crucial match but the six positive cases in the camp would have left DC flustered.
Ricky Ponting admitted it was a difficult build-up but added that he had given his men a pep talk before the game.
"Things have been a little bit interrupted with Mitch Marsh being down with Covid," Ponting told STAR Sports. "Our session yesterday (Tuesday) was pushed back.
"The preparations haven't been perfect and I addressed the group about the two options we have - drag our backsides around or take the positives and realise that we are here for a big tournament with a great franchise," he said.
