Dawood Ibrahim's aide Riyaz Bhati was arrested by the Mumbai police in an extortion case. Bhati will be produced before the court today.
The Anti Extortion Cell (AEC) of the Mumbai police has arrested Dawood Ibrahim’s close aide Riyaz Bhati from Andheri in Mumbai in an extortion case registered at the Versova police station.
An FIR was filed against Bhati after a businessman claimed that Bhati had threatened and demanded a car worth Rs 30 lakh and 7.5 lakh cash.
The FIR also included the names of Dawood Ibrahim’s close aide, Chota Shakeel, and Shakeel's brother-in-law, Salim Qureshi. While Riyaz has been taken into police custody, the AEC team will seek custody of Salim, who is currently in judicial custody.
Salim was arrested last month by the National Investigation Agency (NIA) in a case against Dawood Ibrahim.
Deputy Chief Minister of Maharashtra Devendra Fadnavis recently told India Today that strict action would be taken against Dawood Ibrahim and associates in the state.
