David Warner and Mitchell Marsh have returned to the Australia squad for the two-match T20I series against West Indies, beginning October 5. Cameron Green and Tim David have been retained after their brilliant performances in the T20I series against India.
Star batter David Warner and all-rounder Mitchell Marsh will return to the Australia squad for the T20I series against West Indies.
The two-match T20I series will take place in the Gold Coast (October 5) and Brisbane (October 7) as preparations for the T20 World Cup continue for the defending champions. Along with Warner and Marsh, Marcus Stoinis and Mitchell Starc will also rejoin the team for the series.
The four players - Warner (managed preparation), Marsh (ankle), Stoinis (side) and Starc (knee) - missed the T20I series against India. Meanwhile, Australia have retained Cameron Green for the series against West Indies as part of the 16-member squad. Kane Richardson and Ashton Agar are being managed ahead of the World Cup.
"We have and are taking a cautious approach with the World Cup on the near horizon," National Selection Panel chair George Bailey said.
"To have four key players return gives us the ability to take a conservative path with any minor issues and resolve those well in time for the World Cup. As such we anticipate Kane and Ashton will return for the following series against England."
Aaron Finch (c), Sean Abbott, Pat Cummins, Tim David, Cameron Green, Josh Hazlewood, Josh Inglis, Mitchell Marsh, Glenn Maxwell, Daniel Sams, Steve Smith, Mitchell Starc, Marcus Stoinis, Matthew Wade, David Warner, Adam Zampa.
The T20I series against West Indies will be followed by a three-match T20I series against England before Australia assemble for the T20 World Cup in Brisbane. A practice match for the T20 World Cup is scheduled at the Gabba on October 17.
