In der Türkei lebt die größte uigurische Diaspora weltweit. Für die in China verfolgte muslimische Minderheit sind die Türken ein „Brudervolk“. Doch seit Präsident Erdogan die wirtschaftliche Abhängigkeit von Peking zulässt, nimmt die Akzeptanz ab – dabei ist die Türkei kein Einzelfall.
Hier leben die meisten der rund 50.000 Uiguren in Istanbul. Es ist die größte uigurische Diaspora weltweit. Das liegt auch daran, dass Uiguren und Türken kulturell, sprachlich und historisch eng verwandt sind. Vom „Brudervolk“ ist oft die Rede. Tatsächlich aber ist die Situation der Minderheit in der Türkei heute angespannt. Die Regierungspartei AKP will es sich mit dem potenziellen strategischen Partner China hingegen nicht verscherzen. Und die Kommunistische Partei Chinas arbeitet weiter aktiv daran, ihren Einfluss in Zentralasien und im Nahen Osten auszudehnen. Zu spüren bekommen das wohl zunächst die ohnehin unter Unterdrückung leidenden Uiguren.
