Cyclones won't have any major impact on the onset of monsoon, say meteorologists
India Today
The long-term impact of the cyclonic system on the onset of monsoon is unlikely. The cyclonic system is created due to local factors and its impact areas have a limited geographical boundary for merely a few days.
Cyclone Tauktae has hit several areas of the country this week, severely impacting lives in Gujarat, Maharashtra, Goa and Diu and even causing widespread rains in other states, including Delhi-NCR. This is not just a single cyclonic system which has been active in the coastal areas of the Indian subcontinent, a similar system named Yass is developing in the Bay of Bengal and North Andaman Sea. At a time when normally monsoon system sets up in both the Arabian Sea and the Bay of Bengal, the big question is that would the cyclonic systems affect the onset of monsoon? Experts have different views on this. But one common ground is that the long-term impact on the onset of monsoon is unlikely. The major reason behind the theory is that the monsoon is an annual global system which has an impact over a larger area and constitutes a huge system, intensity and the onset of which is being decided by different factors. The cyclonic system is created due to local factors and its impact areas have a limited geographical boundary for merely a few days.More Related News
