Cyclist killed in collision on 401 south of London Thursday morning

A cyclist has died after a collision along Highway 401 south of London early Thursday morning. 

The cyclist was struck by a passing vehicle on the highway and died at the scene. Police said a suspect was arrested at another location without incident. 

OPP, paramedics and firefighters were dispatched to the eastbound Highway 401 at Colonel Talbot Road after 5:15 a.m. 

The southbound exit ramp to Colonel Talbot Road was closed — and the eastbound Highway 401 was down to one lane in the area for hours Thursday. Police said traffic was not backed up in the area.  "Obviously this is a very unfortunate event," said Const. Jeff Hare of OPP Middlesex. "We do want to take this time to remind everybody that bicycles and pedestrians are not allowed on our 400 series Highways in Ontario." 

The identify of the cyclist is being withheld until next-of-kin is notified.  Police are asking drivers in the area to be patient and slow down.  If you have any information that may be helpful, please call the Middlesex OPP at 1-888-310-1122.
