CWC approves Chief Minister Revanth Reddy's proposal for caste census inclusion in national census, strategic planning urged for Southern states.
The Congress Working Committee (CWC) passed a resolution and approved the proposal of Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy that a resolution be passed on the caste census to the Union government and included in the national census to be taken up soon.
Mr. Reddy, who was speaking at the CWC meeting at Belagavi in Karnataka on Thursday, explained the caste survey being taken up by the Telangana government and said it should be a guide to the entire country. He also suggested that the Congress should fight to include caste census in the census to be conducted by the Central government next year.
The Chief Minister said that there are chances of re-organisation of parliamentary constituencies in the country soon, and if it was done based on population, Southern States were likely to suffer with northern States getting benefited in terms of seats enhancement. This was a matter of serious concern and the Congress should move strategically and ensure Southern states don’t lose out, he said.
Mr. Reddy also suggested that Congress should make efforts to take credit for the Women’s Bill in Parliament increasing their share in the Legislatures. He cautioned that the BJP would try to create reservation in a way that would benefit the party rather than the women. Congress should be careful in this regard, he said.
TPCC president Mahesh Kumar Goud recalled how Mahatma was elected as Congress president exactly 100 years ago. Though he did not hold any positions thereafter, the world recognised him for his non-violence ideology and the principles he stood for.
