CSK vs KKR: Orange Cap winner last year, Ruturaj Gaikwad out for 0 in IPL 2022 season opener

CSK vs KKR, IPL 2022: Umesh Yadav shone in the first powerplay of the new season as he picked up the wickets of Ruturaj Gaikwad and Devon Conway, jolting Chennai Super Kings at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.
Ruturaj Gaikwad began the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 season on an ordinary note as the Orange Cap winner from last season got out for a 4-ball duck in the opening match against Kolkata Knight Riders at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.
Ruturaj did not put a foot wrong last season as he played a pivotal role in helping Chennai Super Kings's run to their 4th IPL title. The Maharashtra batter had topped the batting charts with 635 runs in 16 matches.

However, on Saturday, Ruturaj looked all at sea against the pace and swing that Umesh Yadav was generating with the new ball after KKR won the toss and opted to bowl in Mumbai. After playing and missing a couple of deliveries, Ruturaj was caught at slips as he tried to slash hard at a wide delivery from the senior India pacer.
Ruturaj was also not able to make good use of a free-hit as he played and missed the freebie after Umesh overstepped in the very first delivery of IPL 2022.
Ruturaj's new partner, Devon Conway, who made his debut for CSK, also did not manage to trouble the scorers much. The left-handed New Zealand batter managed just 3 runs from 8 balls before walking back to the pavilion following a soft dismissal as Umesh struck twice for KKR in the powerplay.
CSK managed just 35 runs and lost 2 wickets in the powerplay. Shreyas Iyer was spot on as the new captain for KKR as he got the results after giving Umesh, who was getting plenty of swing, an extra over in the first 6 overs.
