
Cruise drugs case: Court to hear NCB plea seeking 90 more days to file chargesheet

A special NDPS court will hear on Wednesday the NCB’s plea seeking an extension of 90 days to file the chargesheet in the Mumbai cruise drugs case.
A special court under the under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act will hear on Wednesday a plea by the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) seeking an extension of 90 days to file the chargesheet in the Mumbai cruise drugs case.
Special public prosecutor Advait Sethna had filed an application on behalf of the NCB through which the agency requested it be granted 90 more days to file the chargesheet citing that investigation is ongoing in the matter. Actor Shah Rukh Khan's son Aryan Khan is one of the 20 accused in the case.
According to the Criminal Procedure Code (CrPC), the NCB was supposed to file the chargesheet in the October 2021 case within 180 days of the registration of the FIR. The stipulated 180 days to file the chargesheet ends on March 31.

Abdul Kadar Shaikh, the alleged drug peddler in the Mumbai cruise drugs case got into the witness box at the special court and pleaded that the court should either not entertain the application filed by the agency, or should grant him bail.
The accused with a lean frame spoke fluent English and sought permission from the court before speaking out. Standing in the witness box, he said, "My name is Abdul Kadar Shaikh and it is my humble request that the court should not grant any extension to the NCB. I am already suffering in judicial custody for the last six months and it is upsetting my mental and physical and financial health. My entire family depends on my earning and they are not in good condition. All the charges levelled against me are false. If you want to give extension, please get me out of this, grant me bail."
At hearing this, special public prosecutor Advait Sethna representing the NCB SIT said, "There, the accused has been heard, principles of natural justice has been done."
