Cranberry Portage residents evacuate, parts of Highway 10 closed as wildfire burns

Hundreds of residents in a small Manitoba community were told to evacuate the area as a wildfire near Flin Flon continues to burn out of control.
About 600 people in Cranberry Portage, a community about 37 kilometres southeast of Flin Flon, were ordered to leave Saturday night, a councillor in the area told CBC News.
According to the latest update from the province, a fire grew significantly Friday night and covered about 3,000 hectares (more than 7,400 acres) by Saturday afternoon.
The province issued an evacuation order to a number of homes and cottages in the area, and had warned others nearby to be prepared to leave.
The fire also prompted the closure of part of Highway 10, according to Manitoba 511. All lanes on the highway from five kilometres north of Cranberry Portage to Highway 800, also called the Sherridon Access Road, are closed.
The province said in an update Saturday that officials also closed off Sourdough Bay Road, east of Flin Flon, and evacuated the area around Sourdough Bay.
Environment Canada has issued special air quality statements for parts of southern Manitoba, including Winnipeg. Conditions are expected to improve throughout the day Sunday.
CBC News has contacted the province for an update, but has not heard back.
