In two separate busts in Haryana and Bengaluru, DRI officials seized illicit drugs worth Rs 245 crore. A factory manufacturing a controlled substance, Ephedrine, was raided in Haryana, whereas 16 kg of heroin was seized in Bengaluru.
Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) officers busted a factory in Yamunanagar, Haryana that was involved in the illegal manufacturing of Ephedrine and seized materials worth Rs 113 crores. In another incident in Bengaluru Railway station, officials recovered 16kg of heroin from a man valued at Rs 112 crore.
Ephedrine is a controlled substance listed under Schedule A of the Narcotics Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (Regulation of Controlled Substances) Order, 2013. It is used in the manufacture of methamphetamine - a party drug.
The operation led to the seizure of 661 kg of Ephedrine and 5,200 kg of raw materials valued at Rs133 crores on the international illicit market.
Equipment like centrifuges and glass line reactors, which were being used to manufacture the chemical drugs were also recovered. Three persons, including one of the financiers, have been arrested in this case and further investigations are underway.
The busting of a factory manufacturing illicit drugs deals a body blow to the drug syndicates engaged in manufacturing, sale and distribution of such drugs.
In the second case, DRI officers intercepted a person at Bengaluru Railway Station. A search of his bag led to the recovery of 16 kg of heroin valued at Rs 112 crore on the international illicit market, which was ingeniously concealed in the false cavity of the trolley bag.
The person had arrived in Bengaluru by flight from Addis Ababa, Ethiopia and was on his way to New Delhi, when he was intercepted.
