CRA Qatar warns of WhatsApp hacking attempts

Doha: Beware of hacking attempts targeting WhatsApp users warned a social media post by the Communications Regulatory Authority as it asked users to enable the two-step verification feature for additional safety. 

Explaining how WhatsApp accounts has been hacked, the CRA stated that "hackers uses your mobile number to create a new WhatsApp account, so you will receive an SMS message from WhatsApp with a six-digit verification code." The hacker then convinces the users in several ways to share this code, and once the hacker gets it, the person then gets control of the WhatsApp account, further communicating with your contacts to defraud them by impersonating the user.
