Haridas, a fisherman and CPI(M) worker, was murdered by a gang on Monday, February 21 in Thalassery, Kerala. He was killed when he was returning home from work. CPI(M) alleges that the RSS was involved in the murder.
A Communist Party of India (Marxist) (CPI(M)) activist was hacked to death in Punnol near New Mahe in Thalassery in the early hours of Monday, February 21. Haridas, the deceased fisherman, was returning from work at around 1 am on Monday when he was attacked.
Haridas was attacked by a group who arrived on two bikes. His brother, who tried to block the attack, was injured and has been hospitalised. Allegedly, a rift between CPI(M) and Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) workers over a local temple festival led to the attack and murder.
The CPI(M) leadership has alleged that the RSS was involved in the murder. CPI (M) leader MV Jayarajan alleged that this was not the only gruesome act as a result of the ongoing clash. He said that provocative speeches were made before the incidents leading up to the murder.
Haridas's body is currently at Pariyaram Medical College. His brother Suran is under treatment at Cooperative Hospital, Thalassery.
Protesting the murder, hartal will be observed in New Mahe Panahcyat and Thalassery municipality.
