Covid-19 norms went for a toss during the Bharatiya Janata Party's (BJP) ambitious 'Jan Vishwas Yatra' in Ghaziabad on Saturday. The rally was held amid rising fear of the Omicron variant.The rally was attended by Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath. On Friday, the state saw daily Covid-19 cases double overnight to 49, leading to restrictions, including night curfew.NIGHT CURFEW, CURBS IN STATEApart from night curfew, the number of persons at social events and marriages has been restricted to 200 for closed spaces and 50 per cent of the capacity for open spaces. However, no specific orders were issued for political rallies.NO FEAR OF COVID-19 In Ghaziabad, as the Chief Minister took the stage, a sea of people welcomed him, almost everyone with no mask.
Responding to India Today, a group of women who came to the rally said, "We don’t have any fear of Covid-19, we want to see Yogi Adityanath, and that’s why we all have come."
