A COVID-19 outbreak was identified at a student residence at Western University, according to a press release from the school on Saturday.
Officials said five students at the university's Saugeen-Maitland Hall residence have tested positive for the virus and are self isolating along with their close contacts.
It is mandatory for all students in residence to be fully vaccinated, however it is not confirmed whether these students were exempt from vaccination.
All other students and employees at the residence are not isolating but are asked to watch for symptoms.
Officials said there is no evidence the virus was transmitted in the classroom.
"We want to assure you that the health and safety of our campus community remains our number one priority," said Chris Alleyne, the associate vice president of housing and ancillary services, in the statement.
"Western is prepared for this scenario and we are coordinating closely with the [Middlesex-London Health Unit] to ensure students are receiving appropriate care and that proper precautions are being taken to minimize further risk of transmission."
