The number of COVID-19 hospitalizations and active outbreaks dropped in Waterloo region on Monday, new data from public health shows.
The number of people with the virus in the region's three hospitals fell from 98 on Friday to 84 on Monday. There were 19 people in the intensive care unit. The region notes people in the ICU may no longer be infectious with COVID-19 but do require ongoing, specialized care.
Active outbreaks also dropped by eight to 51. Of those:
There were five deaths of people with COVID-19 reported on Monday: A man in his 90s, a man and a woman in their 80s and a man and a woman in their 60s.
The region reported 264 new COVID-19 cases between Friday and Monday; however, that number is considered to be below the actually number of cases because not everyone can be tested for the virus currently.
The region's vaccination dashboard showed 79.59 per cent of all residents in the region have received two doses of the COVID-19 vaccine.
Of children aged five to 11, 54.5 per cent have one dose while 28.5 per cent have two doses.
