The court has ordered a 'competent, fearless advocate' for legal aid for the accused in the Nusli Wadia murder conspiracy case.
A special court has forwarded the application filed by an accused in 33-year-old Nusli Wadia attempt to murder case case to get 'competent fearless advocate' from legal aid department. The case pertains to an alleged attempt to murder of Nusli Wadia due to “corporate rivalry” in 1988-89.
The accused Ivan Sequeira in his application before a special Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) court said that the agency is shielding industrialist Mukesh Ambani. The accused said Mukesh Ambani should be made an accused in the case.
Special Judge SP Naik Nimbalkar noted that Sequeira was not represented by a lawyer and said, “Let him be legally represented." The court has ordered a 'competent, fearless advocate' for legal aid for the accused.
When the judge said that Sequeira should be allowed to present himself legally, he said that he had already filed an application for legal aid as his lawyers were threatened.
Manoj Chaladan then said, “I have given no objection to him being provided legal aid but there are some other allegations in the application that I deny.”
It was at this juncture that the court decided to forward his application to the District Legal Aid Services Authority and asked them to see if it is legally permissible for the accused to get a lawyer appointed f legal aid. The court asked Sequeira to follow up and get a lawyer appointed, to which Sequeira agreed.
