COP27: Qatar tp highlight efforts to organise a green World Cup

* Minister of Environment and Climate Change inspects Qatar pavilion at COP27 Qatar is participating in the 27th Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP27), hosted by the Egyptian city of Sharm El-Sheikh, with a variety of activities through Qatar’s pavilion participating in the conference. During the conference, Qatar will review its efforts to organise the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 in accordance with global environmental conditions. The participation of Qatar in the conference comes within the framework of its keenness to contribute to the international efforts to confront the effects of climate change, with many ministries, authorities and institutions of Qatar taking part in the pavilion. HE the Minister of Environment and Climate Change Sheikh Dr Faleh bin Nasser bin Ahmed bin Ali al-Thani inspected the Qatar pavilion, accompanied by HE the Special Envoy of the Minister of Foreign Affairs for Climate Change and Sustainability Badr Omar Ismail al-Dafa. The minister said that Qatar's participation is aimed at presenting the country's achievements in facing climate change on various fronts, especially in terms of preserving the environment in various sectors like oil, natural gas, water, and infrastructure, by mitigating greenhouse gas emissions, and adapting to the negative effects of climate change. Qatar's pavilion will hold various activities, including presentations covering the topics of greenhouse gas emissions mitigation, climate change effects adaption, economic diversification, and research and development in the field of climate change, renewable energy and energy efficiency improvements. Videos, photos and 3D models highlighting Qatar's efforts in the field of climate change would be displayed. Qatar’s efforts in the field of environment and climate change are not new. In 2012, Qatar hosted one of the important phases of climate change negotiations: the COP18 conference. Qatar has, through its national team, participated in the negotiations on the climate change agreement and the Paris Agreement, to preserve national interests in the issue of climate change, in co-ordination with the various negotiating groups, in compliance with Article 6 of the Paris Agreement. The COP27 UN Climate Change Conference constitutes an important opportunity for heads of state, government and ministers during high-level meetings to discuss common environmental issues in the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) and the Paris Agreement.
