Convoy protesters block section of Highway 402 heading to another U.S. border crossing

Convoy protesters block section of Highway 402 heading to another U.S. border crossing

CBC
Wednesday, February 9, 2022 4:56 PM GMT

Convoy protestors are blocking a section of highway leading to a second major border crossing with the United States.

The OPP is reporting a section of highway 402 westbound that heads toward Sarnia's Bluewater Bridge border crossing, is closed Wednesday morning due to 'freedom convoy' demonstrations in the area.

All lanes are currently closed, westbound at Nauvoo Road.

The OPP is reporting high volumes of traffic in the area and is asking drivers to follow emergency detouring route signs.

Traffic is also stalled at the region's other major crossing to the United States.

The Canadian Border Services Agency is reporting that the Ambassador Bridge is "temporarily closed" and have been diverting commercial traffic to the Bluewater Bridge.

For the third day in a row, anti-vaccine mandate protesters are blocking access to the Ambassador Bridge, linking Windsor, Ont. and Detroit, Mich.

Windsor police have maintained one side-street entrance to the bridge, allowing the trickle of some traffic. Traffic is completely blocked for those exiting the bridge and entering Canada from Michigan.

More to come.
