India Today
Hitting out at the Congress, PM Narendra Modi said the grand old party had sacked Lata Mangeshkar's brother from All India Radio for presenting a poetry on Veer Savarkar.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday accused the Congress of stifling freedom of expression, saying that the grand old party had sacked the brother of legendary singer Lata Mangeshkar from All India Radio for presenting a poetry on Veer Savarkar.
Replying to the debate on the motion of thanks to the president's address in the Rajya Sabha, PM Modi said, "Lata Mangeshkarji, who left us recently, was originally from Goa. Her brother Hridaynath Mangeshkar was kicked out of All India Radio as he presented a programme on Veer Savarkar's poem on nationalism.
PM Modi also claimed that acclaimed poet and lyricist Majrooh Sultanpuri and Professor Dharmapal were imprisoned for over a year for criticising the policies of former Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru.

“Legendary singer Kishore Kumar was cast out during the Emergency for not speaking in favour of Indira Gandhi,” said PM Modi.
“Any protest against a particular family can land one in trouble. Sitaram Kesri [former Congress president] is an example of this,” he added.
Accusing the Congress of following dynastic politics, PM Modi said when a family is supreme in any party, the first casualty is talent.
