Congress leader Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury hit out at the West Bengal Chief Minister over the bifurcation of Murshidabad district.
Congress Lok Sabha leader Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury slammed West Bengal Mamata Banerjee over bifurcation of Murshidabad in three different districts.
Slamming the West Bengal CM, the Congress leader said, "If there can be North 24 Parganas and South 24 Parganas, what is the problem in making North Murshidabad or South Murshidabad? I will go to any extent to stop the name of Murshidabad from being changed."
West Bengal is set to get seven new districts with the cabinet giving its nod to the proposal, Mamata Banerjee said on Monday.
"Lord Clive compared Murshidabad to London. Murshidabad has a lot of history associated with it. Murshidabad was the capital of combined Bengal, Bihar and Odisha at one point. Mamata Banerjee cannot erase the name of Murshidabad through her whim and fancies," Congress MP from Behrampur said.
"She cannot get done with the name of Murshidabad. I have no problem with smaller districts for better administration, but why does she want to change the name of Murshidabad?," the Congress leader questioned.
The Bengal government has announced the bifurcation of Murshidabad into two districts- Jangipur and Behrampur. Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury is the MP of Behrampur in Murshidabad.
