Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge unveils Mahatma Gandhi statue in Belagavi

Leader of Opposition in Rajya Sabha Mallikarjun Kharge unveiled a statue of Mahatma Gandhi in front of Suvarna Soudha in Belagavi, on January 21.
The 25-foot tall statue is built of 25 tonnes of bronze. The statue stands on a 12-foot tall podium.

A special envelope with an image of the statue was released on the occasion. A special volume of Gandhi Bharat, a book containing the speeches of Gandhiji and the resolutions passed in the Belgaum session, and other articles was also released.
In his introductory speech, Assembly Speaker U. T. Khadar called for peace and communal harmony. He said the Gandhi statue would serve as a memorial to the 1924 Belgaum session.
